In Ružomberok, a mountain town where basketball is stitched into community life, a teenager is learning how to turn potential into proof. Her name is Michaela Oravcová, a Slovak guard who grew up in MBK Ružomberok’s gym and now splits her minutes between the club’s under 19 team and the women’s ExtraLiga competition. In 2024 she debuted for the national Slovakia’s under 16 team, averaging 11 points per game; in 2025 she stepped up to the under 18s and lifted that to 15, the kind of year-over-year leap that signals something real is forming. Ask her what basketball means and she doesn’t reach for clichés. She reaches for family. “My teammates, my coaches; I love them. I meet so many new people and I can meet so many people and it’s so good for me.”

Emilie Nørregaard-Laursen wants to grow with BK Amager

The 17-year-old Emilie Nørregaard-Laursen has already experienced so much within the basketball sport. She has spent most of her career with her club BK Amager, with just one remarkable detour; a year in the United States playing basketball in Phoenix. Her journey tells a story of amazing talent and a pure love for the game. “I actually started playing when I was five years old,” Emilie recalls. “My mom was playing back then, just for fun, and she introduced me to it. At the start I didn’t really like it, but then I was hooked after like one game.”

Bij Esmée Fraser zie je iemand die plezier, lef en ambitie meebrengt. Ze is teamcaptain van het VU14 team van Basketball Academy Utrecht, en beleeft basketbal alsof ze nooit iets anders heeft gedaan. Esmée’s sportliefde begon niet op het basketbalveld, maar op het gras. “Ik zat eerst op voetbal, maar ik vond dat niet meer leuk worden en toen ben ik gestopt rond coronatijd. Ik heb me toen ingeschreven bij Almere Pioneers. Ik heb toen heel lang op de wachtlijst gestaan, maar uiteindelijk kon ik in het U10 team terecht komen.”
